UFW SS25: BOBKOVA show
The SS25 collection by BOBKOVA, inspired by Ukrainian poetic cinema and the mythical images of mavkas, debuted on September 3 in the Metropolitan Cellars of the Saint Sophia Cathedral. The mavka, a heroine of Carpathian mythology, central to works by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, Lesia Ukrainka, Oleksandr Oles, and Ivan Franko, serves as the collection’s focal image. The palette ranges from milky shades reminiscent of algae to gentle blues and turquoises, complemented by classic white and black. Textures include flowing blended fabrics of silk, cotton, polished linen, silk knitwear, “wet” lurex, cotton, and linen mesh, as well as pearl, shell, and stone details resembling the moonlit shimmer of water.
BOBKOVA maintains a commitment to sustainable practices, using textile fragments in patchwork techniques to minimize waste. The collection features intricate handcraft details like embroidery with stones and pearls and leather-cord footwear woven with small heels.
Signature pieces include versatile items that transform, such as dresses that can be worn as skirts, halter dresses, and tops with variable ties, along with jackets, dresses, raincoats with adjustable ties on the waist, shoulders, or sleeves.
The collection offers “mavka” dresses with deep-back necklines or asymmetrical cuts, kimono-style dresses, voluminous dresses, and knit dresses with details that lend a flowing silhouette. An ethnic variation is the “svytka” dress, incorporating traditional men’s clothing elements with diagonal closure lines and stand-up collars.
BOBKOVA experiments with menswear motifs, featuring trouser suits in thin, flexible fabrics like jersey typically used for sportswear, jackets with extended panels, and wide trousers with exposed seams—offering a relaxed interpretation of classic garments.
Stylistic highlights include long ribbons adorned with pearls, worn as sautoirs, belts, or tied on the arm or shoulder. Accessories include baroque pearl earrings and pendants shaped like the totemic heroine of the Spring-Summer 2025 collection.
