The Khanenko Museum – CIMAM 2024 Awardee
The XXVI All-Ukrainian Competition of Young Fashion Designers “Look into the Future” partner – The Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts – received the Outstanding Museum Practice Award from the International Committee of Museums and Collections of Contemporary Art CIMAM.
At the 56th Annual Conference, the International Committee of Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) announced the three recipients of its fourth edition of the Outstanding Museum Practice Award (OMPA). This year, the winners are the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art (Turkey), the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art (Brazil), and the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Art (Ukraine).
Suzanne Cotter, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, CIMAM Board Member, and Chair of OMPA’s Steering Committee, noted that “This year’s awards celebrate groundbreaking programs in Turkey, Brazil, and Ukraine, each exemplifying new possibilities for museums that respond to CIMAM’s ambition to encourage and inspire models for sustainability in the broadest sense in modern and contemporary art museums.”
With the outbreak of the full-scale invasion, the Khanenko Museum became a platform for conversation and experience exchange between artists and their audiences. Despite enduring a missile strike in 2022, the institution continues to be a place of unity for people. The Khanenko Museum’s courageous response to the tragic consequences of the full-scale Russian invasion highlights the role of art centers as spaces for freedom of expression. The museum has provided the global professional community with an example of effective management, even amid the challenges of war.
Ukrainian Fashion Week is excited to collaborate with the Khanenko Museum on the “Look into the Future” competition. This initiative further highlights the museum’s innovative approach to cultural management, which has been highly recognized by the CIMAM committee.CIMAM is an International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art.
