“The horse is covered in a golden mane”Konyk is GUNIA Project’s new Christmas ceramic collection, inspired by the symbol of 2026 — the Red Fire Horse, which in Ukrainian culture represents a primal, life-affirming force. The brand has explored the widespread presence of the horse motif in Ukrainian folk art — from children’s toys and painted tiles to its prominent role in ceramic decoration.

Historically, the image of the horse was closely tied to the sun. It was believed that horses pulled the chariot of the sun across the sky or even embodied the sun itself. GUNIA expands this festive symbolism by adding new meanings of unity, power, and joy to the image of the horse.

The brand’s interpretation of the horse blends irony, naivety, and mysticism. One of the key storylines features a unicorn — a mythical creature believed to bring happiness to those who encounter it. This character is inspired by a rare pattern found on an old stove tile. Other designs reference a painted motif from a 20th-century ceramic jug. The horsemen motifs are combined with signature elements of the brand drawn from naïve rushnyky embroidery — stars, angels, and flowers — which together form a symbolic Tree of Life shaped like a festive Christmas tree.

The collection includes a range of hand-crafted ceramics: decorative plates, wine carafes, sugar bowls, teapots, and uniquely shaped cups and saucers. Butter dishes and candles take the form of a traditional toy horse. Each item is hand-molded and painted in a soft palette with bright accents and gold detailing, reflecting a festive spirit. The collection also includes hand-blown glass Christmas ornaments, each individually crafted and painted.
