Bob Basset is a Kharkiv-based art studio with over thirty years of history, originating from the family workshop of brothers Oleh and Serhiy Petrov. The studio works primarily with leather, creating masks, wearable art, accessories, and art objects in its own aesthetic, which Serhiy Petrov defines as “technoromanticism.”
Bob Basset gained international attention in the late 2000s. In 2009, T Magazine of The New York Times wrote about the studio’s Dog Paws, and in 2010, Riccardo Tisci commissioned Bob Basset masks for the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2011 menswear collection. The studio’s works have been used by musicians including Slipknot, Metallica, Korn, Avril Lavigne, Otep, and Zayn Malik, among others; they have appeared in international fashion publications and been exhibited worldwide. In 2016, Vogue included Bob Basset among nine representatives of the Ukrainian fashion revolution. The studio’s creations have been highly praised by steampunk pioneer William Gibson, filmmaker and artist David Lynch, and post-cyberpunk and science fiction author Cory Doctorow.
