UFW SS25: Creative Resistance art- installation

UFW SS25: Creative Resistance art- installation

This project features works by Ukrainian designers created during the full-scale Russian invasion, reflecting the devastating impact of the war. Each piece is a bold statement, using the language of fashion to critique the aggressor and celebrate the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainians. The installation also includes a portrait gallery, honoring the defenders who left their peaceful careers in fashion to protect their homeland.

POUSTOVIT scarf

The design of the POUSTOVIT silk scarf combines floral motifs with Lina Kostenko’s poetry. Rhythmic lines complement the image of mimosa flowers, symbolizing spring and hope. The message “We believe in Ukraine” is concealed within the blue and yellow frame of the scarf, representing the resilience of the Ukrainian people. 30% of the proceeds from the sale of this accessory are dedicated to supporting the needs of the Ukrainian Army and providing humanitarian aid to civilians.

KSENIASCHNAIDER jacket

The KSENIASCHNAIDER brand is renowned for its commitment to sustainable fashion. As part of the Support Ukrainian Fashion initiative during London Fashion Week, the brand showcased a jacket made from vintage ties. This jacket became symbolic. In the time of war, ties, once a mundane part of the wardrobe, have become irrelevant, with men increasingly choosing military uniforms over conventional attire.

PASKAL dress

The CAMO Merch Charity Drop mini dress is created using PASKAL’s distinctive laser perforation technology. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, designer Julie Paskal’s advanced production facility has been producing camouflage nets for the defenders. The designer has introduced a limited series of items to raise funds for materials. 100% of the profits from the sales of these items are directed toward making new camouflage nets.

OMELIA shirt

Returning to his studio in Kyiv in May 2022 after a forced evacuation, designer Kostiantyn Omelia saw dried flowers in vases. Previously, back in February, these flowers had adorned the space. The sight of dried flowers inspired the designer to create cotton appliqués, which became a central element of the “Live for Beauty” collection and continued to feature in subsequent releases by the brand. This shirt is crafted from leftover materials and recycled items, underscoring the OMELIA brand’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

FROLOV sweatshirt

A sweatshirt featuring a unique anatomical heart embroidery is part of the limited FROLOVHEART collection. The brand was one of the first to introduce a charity initiative following the full-scale Russian invasion. Throughout FROLOVHEART’s existence, the charitable project has raised over 5 million hryvnias for the “Masha Foundation” of Maria Efrosinina, the NEST project of the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, and the joint “For Love” and the SOVA brand project, which supports the provision of tourniquets to stop critical bleeding (supported by a volunteer paramedic organization “Hospitallers”).

SOVA bracelet

The “Azovstal. The Symbol of Indomitability” bracelet is made from the final pre-war batch of steel produced at the legendary Azovstal plant. There are 100,000 ornaments, each representing the national strength, faith in the Armed Forces, and Ukraine’s victory. The “Azovstal. The Symbol of Indomitability” project was created by the fundraising platform UNITED24, Metinvest Group, SOVA jewellery house, and NovaPost company. 100% of the sales’ profit was donated through UNITED24 to the “Army of Drones” project, as well as to the acquisition of anti-drone systems “Shahed Hunter” and the development of the Naval Fleet of Drones.

LITKOVSKA dress

Lilia Litkovska has been supporting the Azov Brigade since the first day of the full-scale invasion. In Europe, the designer frequently organizes charity events to raise awareness about the war in Ukraine and directs funds to the regiment. For the SS23 collection, she decorated one of the dresses by embroidering an abstract of the “Prayer of the Ukrainian Nationalist” poem, composed in 1936 by the dissident Osyp Mashchak. The designer believes that today these words take on a new meaning and can be associated with the heroes of “Azov”. The embroidery is placed close to the heart as a reminder that courage and faith are constant companions in the fight for freedom.

STARCHAK jacket

The items from the STARCHAK collection were designed as art objects, not intended to be worn. The designer of the brand, Maria Starchak, released this collection in honor of the Ukrainian cities destroyed by the Russian attacks. The jacket with the inscription “CHILDREN” refers to the tragedy of March 16, 2022, when the Russian military shelled the Mariupol drama theatre, resulting in the deaths of at least 300 civilians. The jacket is embroidered with red threads and adorned with bullet-like embellishments, symbolizing the bombs that destroyed the theatre.

DOMANOFF cape

The DOMANOFF brand created a cape dedicated to the figure of Mother and her role in the full-scale war. Cape pays tribute to Ukrainian mothers and embodies the thorned path of women who raise children during war, wait for their sons from the battlefront, and defend Ukrainian independence as soldiers in the ranks of the Armed Forces. The cape is decorated with hand-embroidered women’s names, representing a memorial of this war’s heroines. The embroidery colors are red and black — symbolizing love and sorrow as if quoting the song “Two Colors” by Dmytro Pavlychko and Oleksandr Bilash.

91LAB cardigan

Alyona Pikul, the designer of the 91LAB brand, decided to turn to the works of Maria Prymachenko immediately after the news of the destruction by Russian troops of the Ivankiv Museum of Local History, which harbored the works of the outstanding Ukrainian artist. The whimsical and vivid pictures of animals and birds 91LAB translated into black and white prints, creating a “sketchbook” from several works composed into one thing. The brand directed a share of the profits from the collection to construct the Maria Prymachenko museum in her native village of Bolotnia in the Kyiv region.

INDPOSHIV embroidered “vyshyvanka” shirt

INDPOSHIV embroidered shirt, inspired by the work of artist Rufina Bazlova, combines symbols of strength and hope. The shirt features wartime symbols: tanks, BMPs, and people fighting for freedom. A couple raising their hands in a sign of victory embodies faith in the future, and the heart is a reminder of the love and strength that helps overcome even the darkest of times. The first sample of this shirt the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wore on the Day of the National Flag, celebrated on 23 August.

TSVITE TEREN jewelry

This jewelry piece was created in collaboration between the TSVITE TEREN brand and Ukrainian military officer Oleksandr Budko, known by the call sign “Teren.” Oleksandr was seriously wounded, losing both legs during the fighting in the Kharkiv region in May 2022. While rehabilitating in the USA, he sketched the design for an ornament — a branch of thorny thistle made of porcelain. The pendant symbolizes resilience, faith, and unwavering love for life. The brand donates all profits from the sale of this jewelry to charity.

RUSLAN BAGINSKIY brooch

Yevshan-Zillya, which means “wormwood potion,” refers to a fragrant flower of the Ukrainian steppe, a prominent element in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar folklore. In Ukrainian literature, this name symbolizes the deep longing and love for one’s homeland and roots. According to an old legend, the strong scent of wormwood holds the power to guide people back to their homes. This resonates with the way victory in war restores hope and strength, enabling people to return to a peaceful life in their native land. Ruslan Baginskiy created the “Wormwood, Yevshan-Zillya” brooch especially for First Lady Olena Zelenska to mark her visit to the coronation of Charles III.

GUNIA Project pendant

The rooster from Borodyanka, a miraculously preserved ceramic jug on the kitchen shelf of a high-rise building destroyed by the Russians, embodies the resilience and indomitability of the Ukrainian spirit. The founders of the GUNIA Project brand, Mariia Havryliuk, and Natalia Kamenska, dedicated a special project to this symbol. The collection features earrings, pendants, and brooches in the shape of a rooster of various sizes made of gold-plated silver. 10% of the collection’s profit goes to the restoration of the school in the village of Kolychivka in Chernihiv Oblast.

SYNDICATE shirt

The idea of ”Weapons of Mass Creation” as opposed to the destruction of war is the leitmotif of the Syndicate drop. The release includes various shirts created in collaboration with Lviv-based artist Oles Derega. In his prints, Derega “plays with the aesthetics of cataloging objects of historical and cultural value” but replaces these objects with mundane things, such as traditional Ukrainian tableware. The brand defines its primary task as the effective integration of national culture and the destruction of the layers of Russian imperialism.

BEVZA necklace

The brand’s iconic Spikelet necklace, first introduced in 2019, received a new interpretation during the full-scale war. In 2022, Ukraine faced unprecedented challenges when Russian attacks destroyed vast wheat fields in the south of the country. In response to these losses, BEVZA introduced a new ‘Burned’ version of the jewelry piece. This special release is a constant reminder that even in the face of difficulties, the spirit of Ukraine stays unbreakable.

NADYA DZYAK dress

The tragedy at the Kakhovka HPP made Nadya Dzyak turn to the work of the artist Polina Rayko, whose house museum in Oleshky was destroyed by water. To tell about the artist through clothes, the designer used paintings that decorated the rooms and the ceiling of the house and created a light dress with pleats in orange and blue. The dress closed the brand’s show at London Fashion Week SS24 during one of the international seasons of Ukrainian Fashion Week.

TRIP:TYCH care products

To destroy or to recreate as a meaningful idea? Anna Honcharova, founder and creative director of the TRIP:TYCH jewelry brand, chose the latter. This is how a limited collection of body care products appeared, which became the embodiment of the realities of today. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, during the forced relocation, a large run of the care line was damaged, and the aluminum bottles were creased. Instead of disposing of this batch, the designer decided that the product could support people who were also affected by the forced displacement. Thanks to the TRIP:TYCH team, the idea was brought to life, and the brand implemented a project to help children. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the line were used to rebuild a kindergarten in the village of Kachaly, Borodyansky district.

*The entire run of DAMAGE BEAUTY bottles sold out within 7 hours of its release in 2022, these copies are its reproduction.
