Art of Fashion

Ukrainian Fashion Week SS26 presents a space where fashion and art merge into a narrative of cultural identity. The exhibition Art of Fashion brings together ten iconic works by Ukrainian designers, inspired by the creations of prominent painters, sculptors, graphic artists, and illustrators.

It is a visual dialogue that showcases the power of creativity, the depth of the national code, and the ways in which art and fashion resonate with and amplify each other. This season of Ukrainian Fashion Week celebrates this interaction—the power of fashion as a cultural code and a tool for preserving identity in times of war.

The ten works of Art of Fashion span decades of creative experimentation and collaboration. The project highlights the boundless creative potential of Ukrainian designers and their ability to communicate globally while preserving and evolving Ukrainian culture.

91LAB х RITO Group х Maria Prymachenko

In 2022, 91LAB x RITO Group released a collection inspired by the work of Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko. The catalyst for the capsule collection was the destruction of the Ivankiv Museum of Local Lore by russian troops, which housed works by this outstanding 20th-century Ukrainian artist. During those days, an inner protest was raging within me: they had no right to touch either our people or our history; what is ours belongs to us. I wanted to create a collection inspired by Maria Prymachenko’s works—to continue, amplify, reveal, and shout: do not touch—this is ours,” shared the brand’s designer, Alyona Pikul.

PASKAL x Sigmar Polke SS17

The inspiration for PASKAL SS17 came from Sigmar Polke’s painting Ohne Titel (Streifenbild), where three simple lines on a gray background embody simplicity. The collection fused abstract art with innovative techniques: acid colors, dynamic laser-cut fringes, and mesh shaped like mushroom caps paired with A-line dresses and skirts. The collection balances modernity with natural archetypes, creating a dark, almost pagan world centered on the woman—as a mother, partner, and source of beauty, wisdom, and love.

FROLOV x Natalka Soyko SS25

The jacket from the IVASYK collection, presented during the FROLOV show at Ukrainian Fashion Week in September 2024, was created in collaboration with theater director Ivan Uryvsky. The jacket features a logo made of mallows, designed by Natalka Soyko—she not only created the outline of the flowers but also the snake and swan logos, which became key symbols of the collection and were realized in hand embroidery with Swarovski crystals. Creating the jacket takes 110 hours, 90 of which are devoted to hand embroidery.

KSENIASCHNAIDER SS25 Lost Mosaics

KSENIASCHNAIDER’s SS25 collection serves as a poignant reflection of the current moment—where many Ukrainians  and others around the globe are reassembling the fragments of their lives amidst profound  challenges … like a mosaic. Inspired by the monumental mosaic artistry of Stepan and Roman Kirichenko, along with the works of Ludmila Yastreb and lesser-known  artists from Mirgorod and Severdonetsk, Ksenia’s unwavering optimism is beautifully manifested in garments, hand-patched from leftover draped tulle and reflecting the intricate motifs of blossoming flowers and picturesque landscapes.

LITKOVSKA х Nick Knight SS25

Ukrainian brand LITKOVSKA presented a collaboration with renowned British image maker & Director of SHOWstudio Nick Knight. This capsule collection merges the vibrant spirit of Ukraine with Knight’s artistic vision, reflecting on themes of beauty, resilience, and renewal. Inspired by Knight’s iconic floral photography, the capsule portrays flowers as symbols of endurance, balancing fragility and strength. The collaboration becomes a poetic dialogue between Lilia Litkovska’s designs and Knight’s visionary imagery, creating a collection that transcends fashion and speaks to the enduring beauty found even in challenging times. All proceeds from the sale of the collection were donated to the Ukrainian humanitarian initiative “Misto Dobra”, which provides shelter, psychological support, and assistance to women and children affected by russian aggression.

NADYA DZYAK x Polina Rayko SS24 UFWxLFW

The dress by the Ukrainian brand NADYA DZYAK is inspired by the work of naïve artist Polina Rayko, whose house-museum in Oleshky was flooded after the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed by russian forces. “I wanted to bring her paintings onto our dresses. After all, the future of our country will be built on the foundation of preserved and rediscovered culture. That is why we must nurture our artistic heritage with all our love—even if it has been washed away by water,” shares the brand’s designer and creative director, Nadya Dzyak.

Lona Prist x Malevych

Ahead of the release of the film Malevych by director Darya Onishchenko, the accessory brand LONA PRIST presented the Malevych capsule collection, which draws on the artist’s legacy and integrates it into a contemporary context. The centerpiece of the collection is the Cube Bag—a minimalist bag adorned with graphic prints inspired by Suprematist Composition (1916). “LONA PRIST bags are about geometry and clear lines. The sense of form and color in Malevich’s work once inspired me to choose this direction in design,” shared the brand’s founder and designer, Alona Prist.

Poustovit x Makov SS11

“The works from the series Urban Tablecloth and Utopia contain deep irony, precision, and at the same time, poetry—all of which we wanted to translate into objects that become part of our everyday lives. Makov’s graphics are restrained, yet layered with meaning. They don’t shout, but they hold your attention. When I first saw his Tablecloth series, I immediately felt: this could be clothing, this could be a home, this could be a story. The moment when a fork becomes a pattern, and a bird—a symbol of simplicity and depth—was decisive for me,” shared the brand’s founder and creative director, Lilia Poustovit.

Vozianov x Oleksandra Ekster SS22

Vozianov is a brand that breaks the boundaries between disciplines, exploring fashion and design through the lens of maximal simplicity and universality. One of the main challenges in the brand’s concept is transforming clothing into a design object, where functional, visual, and structural significance allows it to remain relevant beyond time and trends. The XTR collection is a dynamic allusion to the work of Oleksandra Ekster. Every piece in the collection is a “dress-painting,” existing simultaneously in the worlds of art and design.

Lysenko Gallery Anton Tarasyuk’s coat

Anton Tarasyuk’s coat Star Flame was created as a continuation of his artistic series titled Blood. Conceived during combat missions, the series reflects a profound search for emotional expression in conditions where traditional materials, such as paint, are often unavailable, impractical, or inappropriate. Rooted in the avant-garde tradition, this work emerges from a metaphorical ground soaked in blood, symbolizing resilience and the intensity of lived experience. The artist transforms the coat into wearable art—an object that transcends functionality and becomes an integral part of the artistic discourse.можна одягнути — об’єкт, який виходить за межі функціональності та стає невід’ємною частиною художнього дискурсу.
