ALMA VETLENYI

Winner of “Gombold Újra!” Central European Designer Contest 2016, Budapest

My motivation is to combine my individuality and creativity with sustainable technological solutions within fashion. My current goal is to study the theoretical and scientific background of sustainability, applying this knowledge for design and further production, so I could credibly represent the sustainable fashion with my works. I think that International Young Designers Contest is the great initiative, giving young designers from different countries the opportunity for transnational mobility, exchange ideas, networking and cooperation across border, as well as the excellent chance to be introduced on the international level. Sustainability is my core value that interlaces all areas of life. And my latest collection also reflects this value, as it is created for long-term wear, not only to be timelessly stylish but also durable and eco-friendly. The fabric pattern has internal meaning, holding personal values, which is placed inside and could be revealed only for people, with whom we could share internal kinship. I have to admit that sustainability in fashion is still a new concept in my country, lacking awareness and education about the topic. One of the challenges is the lack of transparency and traceability across the supply chain. But fashion has the power to make positive changes, offering to fashion consumers garments that will enable them to choose smart sustainably responsible lifestyle and feel proud about it. I would like to be among the trendsetters for this, offering innovative solutions in the nearest future.
