THE EPSON DIGITAL FASHION CONTEST IS GOING ON
Only one week left till the end of works admission to the contest. We are waiting for design printed collections for the selection of an expert jury .
For the second time Epson and Ukrainian Fashion Week announced the launch of the EPSON DIGITAL FASHION contest, aimed at fashion designers seeking to create designer's prints and collections made of printed fabrics. The first competition, which took place in 2016, showed a tremendous interest - about 70 designers applied for the competition.
Only one week left till the end of works admission to the contest. We are waiting for design printed collections for the selection of an expert jury (to apply). And now you can get acquainted with the members of the jury of EPSON DIGITAL FASHION 2018, which will tell about the print as a powerful tool for a modern clothing designer:
KHRYSTYNA BOBKOVA, DESIGNER of BOBKOVA BRAND
"Creating a collection, the designer seeks the inspiration in art, travel, music, life, history, nature, and his/her own feelings and experiences.
Working on sketches, we create a form, mood, character, color decision, combination, style. Any brand won’t use someone else's prints in its work; Exceptions are classic prints - a strip, a cell, polka dot.
The designer's print can reveal the theme of the collection deeply, diversify looks, emphasize on the shape and color.
All taboos were removed, and the most amazing combinations of different proportions and textures, 3d prints, using embroidery, application in addition to a print with intentional defects, as well as rubber, silicone, neon materials became trendy now.
Many brands are collaborating with artists, architects, sculptors; often prints from clothes are used in other items: accessories, dishes, shoes, bed linen or even furniture.
First of all, your print must be original and comfortable to "exist" in every created thing.”
MARIA GAVRYLIUK, ILLUSTRATOR AND ART-DIRECTOR OF LAKE STUDIO
"The prints are important tool of designer to create a collection. They help develop the theme, understand the sources of inspiration, and feel the mood and emotional state of the brand.
International brands can be recognized not only for the characteristic cut, but also for the aesthetics of prints. Balenciaga, Kenzo, Dries van Notten, Valentino, Gucci - it's impossible not to recognize the visual language of each of them.
As the last argument, I can say that prints do not leave trends for so many years, that seems to have become an integral part of all fashion trends. Every season they change the color, theme, technique, size, location, but the print itself is always among the trends. "
IVAN AND VASIL KOSTENKO, ILLUSTRATORS, ART-STUDIO "BROTHERS"
"The print for us - is the most interesting sphere in the world of fashion and style. It breathes life into designers’ work, tells its own story and is able to make the image really unique, that’s why the print always occupies a special place in each collection and deservedly considered as an independent art object.
Fortunately, the modern technology makes it possible to diversify the prints as much as possible. All animals have their own color, their original patterns created by nature, and people can choose them at their own will. We are very excited about the work with the contestants and we want to find the inspiration in their prints. "
Also the jury board includes KSENIA SCHNAIDER, DESIGNER of KSENIA SCHNAIDER and ANNA HANOPOLSKAYA, PROJECT MANAGER of JETSETTER.UA.
IRYNA DANYLEVSKA, FOUNDER AND ORGANIZER OF UKRAINIAN FASHION WEEK commented:
"Print has been one of the basic tools of fashion for a long time. It was aimed to to make accent and attract attention in a complex system of costume elements. Despite all the storms of minimalism and purism, the print and ornament (as the oldest prototype of the print) continues to attract our attention, as well as thousands years ago.
Using prints is an important skill for a modern designer. But to find a reasonable balance between its expressiveness and versatility - let's say frankly, is a non-trivial task. "
YULIA SOKOLOVA, MARKETING MANAGER OF EPSON EUROPE B.V.:
"A print on a cloth is the result of printing. The process of printing can be both a guarantee of success and disappointment. In order to get a printed fabric that meets the designer's expectations in color, wear resistance you should carefully choose high-quality printing equipment. Therefore, during the competition, participants will be able to learn more about the processes of digital printing, to print cloths for their own collections to be presented in September during Ukrainian Fashion Week. “
