Ukrainian Fashion Week Wish List
The 33rd Ukrainian Fashion Week impresses with a record variety of out-of-the-catwalk events.
From Oct.8 till Oct.13 the guests will see more than 20 events of diverse formats: installations, presentations, lectures, lunches, fashion-video demonstrations… It’s easy to get lost among such an intensive program, so we have decided to create Ukrainian Fashion Week Wish List. Renowned Ukrainian fashion-insiders, the experts of BEST FASHION AWARDS and other competent authoritative specialists shared with us which events are their definite must-see.
Teryana Solovey, Vogue Ukraine
“In fact one should try to visit all the events within Ukrainian Fashion Week. My profession binds me to attend all the catwalk shows in order to understand the general picture of Ukrainian fashion. Yet, it’s the biggest shame to miss New Names and Fresh Fashion shows! We must support young and talented! We have to make them understand that they are not creating abstractly. Surely, there is no need in “spoiling” them with an impressive article in a magazine, but there is definitely a need in supporting them orally”.
Vadim Medvedev, Passage 15
“I will definitely attend PODOLYAN fashion show. Surely, I will also go to IDoL by Serge SMOLIN catwalk show, as this is the only brand creating full menswear collections. Zalevskiy shows are synonymous to bright extraordinary performances, KAMENSKAYAKONONOVA duo is very interesting and I would like to have a glance at their creative development. Unfortunately, my tough schedule doesn’t allow me to visit all the shows, but as for the shows which I can’t attend, I will follow them on-line at Kommersant Fashion Stream (fashionstream.kommersant.ua). I will attend New Names project, as it is always exciting”.
Ukrainian Fashion Week has always seen the discovery and support of young talented designers as their priority. This year New Names project will present the first collections of five talented fresh comers, two designers from Russia among them. According to UFW General Producer Volodymyr Nechyporuk, Fresh Fashion project can be “re-qualified” into “an international platform”. This time Fresh Fashion format will host the shows of designers from Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Georgia.
Out-of-the-catwalk program of the 33rd Ukrainian Fashion Week also offers a lecture by Guram Gvasalia, one of the brightest and the most charismatic personalities of European fashion business, an authoritative and demanded specialist in the sphere of consulting, an ideologist of promotion programs for several large brands and some promising young designers. For the first time in Ukraine Guram Gvasalia will present his"Size Zero: A Guide To Spiritual Management" book, which has become a true European bestseller.
“I am glad to realize that Ukrainian Fashion Week will be the first platform of the Eastern Europe, where Guram Gvasalia will give his lecture on branding. He gives lectures in the most prestigious educational establishments worldwide – European Business School London, London College of Fashion (University of the Arts London), The University of Winchester, and on Oct.12 he will finally give his lecture аt Ukrainian Fashion Week”, - Volodymyr Nechyporuk.
The lecture by Guram Gvasalia is not the only chance to get professional information from fashion insiders. The last day of Ukrainian Fashion Week will offer one more lecture within Beintrend Lifestyle School. Renata Kharkova, the senior fashion editor of ELLE Russia will tell about “The principles of work of ELLE Russia editorial board and the role of glossy magazines in fashion industry”.
Stas Yankelevskiy, L-Models
“I will visit all the catwalk shows, but there are certain designers which I distinguish for myself as the most interesting ones. I will not miss the opening of an installation be Fedir Vozianov. I am sure that this format will be interesting”.
The first day of UFW will be opened with presentations of two art-fashion projects: “IN#OUT” installation by Fedir Vozianov and “SENSORIUM” art-object by Katja Bereznitsky. Art-space will also offer a photo-exposition “BACKSTAGE” by photographer and journalist Yulia Veber. The event tying together art and fashion worlds will be crowned with a happening by Fedir Vozianov and a presentation of his pre-fall`2014 collection.
The second day of UFW will start with the opening of “Kasta Beauty” – a new multi-brand concept store which will present Ukrainian and Georgian designers. For the first time ever the opening of such a sound multi-brand boutique will be held within Ukrainian Fashion Week.
On Oct. 10 Mystetskyi Arsenal will host a Presentation of a common project by Ukrainian Fashion Week and the Malaysian Embassy. The authors of the project are young talented designers well-known already among fashion professionals and journalists – Yana Chervinska, Dasha Krivokhyzha and Ivan Frolov (three winners of the National Ukrainian Contest among young clothing designers “Look into the Future”.
Masha Khalizeva, Коммерсантъ-Style
“ELLE FEST, installations by Fedir Vozianov, video of Fashion Move On project – all this is extremely important. Such projects help to analyze the development of designers’ views and concepts. Fashion is not a catwalk; it is a synthetic art with many constituents”.
Fashion is not separating itself from any other kinds of art, music for instance. Oleg Skrypka decided to combine both – fashion and music – in one performance, presenting his collection within promotion of his “Wonderful World” album.
For the first time ever Elle Ukraine magazine, a Fashion Partner of Ukrainian Fashion Week, will present their traditional ELLE FEST film festival within the main fashion event of the country. All in all, Friday is dedicated to a symbioses of Film and Fashion industries: right after ELLE FEST there will be launched the third issue of Fashion Move On project. FMO is the presentation of short meter movies or trailers which became the result of the collaboration of creative personalities from different spheres and which brightly illustrate the mood and the philosophy, the idea and the concept of designer brands.
Tatiana Grineva, beintrend
“Surely, I will attend the Opening Party of Ukrainian Fashion Week. I will also go to Oleg Skrypka’s presentation. I am excited to see what he can present at his fashion show. Surely, I will come to our Beintrend Lifestyle School, within which there will be held a lecture by Renata Kharkova – Chief Fashion Editor of ELLE Russia. It is also always interesting to see the creativity of designers from the countries far from “European dictating” and European catwalks. It significantly develops the general view of fashion. So, a fashion show by a designer from India is one of the must-sees for me.
The 33rd Ukrainian Fashion Week will be closed by a show of designer JJ VALAIA (India). The approach to creation of clothes in Europe and in Ukraine in particular differs a lot from fashion tendencies of India. So, after Ukrainian and European prêt-a-porter collections, a collection by JJ VALAIA will be unexpected and contrast, which will make the finish of Ukrainian Fashion truly bright.
