Fashion Revolution: The Future of Textiles exhibition presentation
31.08 16:30 BE SUSTAINABLE! space, MA
The exhibition Fashion Revolution: The Future of Textiles highlights the fashion industry’s major challenges and showcases Swedish solutions and initiatives for a more sustainable system.
It is produced by the Swedish Institute together with researchers and fashion experts.
The exhibition in Kyiv is organized by the Embassy of Sweden and Ukrainian Fashion Week.
The fashion industry is currently dominated by a linear structure sometimes described with the words ‘take, make, dispose’. The global clothing production has more than doubled since 2000. People consume about 62 million tons of clothing globally per year, and only 20 percent is reused or recycled. In short, the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world.
The exhibition shows new initiatives arising on the Swedish fashion scene – from research projects to sustainable collections, from established businesses to start-ups, across different industries and otherwise competing operations – paving the way for a fashion revolution.

On September 3, Freedom Finance Ukraine invites you to the premiere of “Celebration” documentary provided by KyivMusicFilm.
“Celebration”: Olivier Meyrou’s documentary has immortalized the last years of Yves Saint Laurent’s career.
For almost three years, Olivier Meyrou has had the exclusive access to the workshops of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house, where his legendary founder has been preparing his latest collections. Work on the film was completed back in 2001, but the film has only recently been released – because Saint Laurent's partner Pierre Berge was opposed this film release. It is believed that he did not like the image of an elderly and increasingly estranged Yves that he had blocked the film release all these years. It is only in 2015, 7 years after the death of Saint Laurent, that Berge changed his mind and gave permission to release the picture.
“Celebration” is a film that makes one of the brightest figures in the world of fashion more comprehensible and shows a fashion designer in his daily routine - as he creates collections and prepares for shows. This is more than just a biographical film about one of the most ingenious designers of our time - it is a documented story of the beginning of the end and the physical decline.
