RUSLAN BAGINSKIY PRESENTED "STOZHARY" COLLECTION AT PARIS COUTURE FASHION WEEK
Thursday, 04 July 2019
The Ukrainian brand Ruslan Baginskiy presented the debut couture collection of hats during the Paris Couture Fashion Week. On July 1, the designer and Alisa Volskaya - the co-host of the evening, a friend of the brand, an entrepreneur and a philanthropist, invited influencers and fashion insiders from all over the world.
The collection "Stozhary" is a symbiosis of Ukrainian ethnic codes and modern technologies, jewelry, and aesthetics of athleisure. Working on couture hats, Ruslan used 3D drawing and local techniques: silk bulk eco-plastic flowers inspired by traditional wedding boutonnière, balaclava - a modern interpretation of a khustka – Ukrainian traditional headscarf, and the hoop thrown with ears refers to the wheat fields - the colors of the Ukrainian landscape. Couture debut is a delicate attempt to show the world how our past can be written into the present and combine cultural codes with a fashionable reality.
Emphasizing on the idea of the collection, the designer invited two contemporary Ukrainian artists to collaborate. Mykola Tolmachov created a provocative invitation in watercolor techniques, and Mariia Kulikovska - the founder of the feminist organization "Body and Borders", the sculptor created a full-length statue and six busts that were used instead of mannequins. The nucleus of Mariia Kulikovska’s work is her own body, its perpetuation, its transformation, and its decay. The sculptures shown at the presentation are not similar to conventional women's bodies promoted by the fashion industry. It's a story about honesty, overcoming stereotypes, self-acceptance, and respect for one's body. "The ideas of Mariia are very close to me, and it is important for me to use our presentation, in particular, to draw attention to gender issues and the acceptance of our bodies," - Ruslan said.
Natalia Vodianova, a supermodel and founder of the Naked Heart Foundation together with her son Lucas, it-girls Nicky Hilton-Rothschild and Sofia Sanchez de Betak, blogger Xenia Adonts and Natalia Osman, founder of Karl Otto's PR agency, journalist Jessica Michault and Harriet Quick, editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian L'Officiel Ulyana Boyko, Dr. Barbara Sturm, Condé Nast International editorial director, Karina Dobrotvorskaya, BURO editor-in-chief Ekaterina Darma, Harper's Bazaar US Senior Fashion Editor Chrissy Rutherford, stylists Elizabeth Saltzman, Rushka Bergman and Yulia Lobova-Harfouch, models Tami Williams and Anna Andres visited the presentation in Hôtel de Crillon.
