NO SEASON Season. This is the concept with which Ukrainian Fashion Week announces the dates of the next season
UFW NoSS will take place at Mystetskyi Arsenal from August 31 to September 4, 2020.
We will not cancel or postpone the season. Fashion in Ukraine requires support, and no time can be wasted.
We analyze the situation in the global and Ukrainian economies; we recognize and record the changes taking place in the global fashion industry triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic; we understand the challenges for business caused by the lockdown.
A survey conducted by the UFW organizing committee in April 2020 showed a 77% drop in sales compared to April 2019, and more than 40% of Ukrainian fashion brand employees were on unpaid leave during the lockdown.
Exiting the lockdown enables companies to resume their activities, but it does not resolve the critical issues affecting the operations of fashion brands and, in some cases, jeopardizing their existence.
Ukrainian Fashion Week is ready to support Ukrainian designers by announcing the concept of NO SEASON Season and urging designers to present their collections in a variety of formats, using both traditional and all sorts of digital means. We will give designers the opportunity to show new season collections as well as collections that were not demonstrated last season but remain relevant and can be sold now. We continue to focus on sustainability in the framework of BE SUSTAINABLE! Project. We will also create special conditions for the presentations of young designers.
The world is changing. But change does not mean destruction and chaos. Resource assessment, consciousness as the key guiding principle, and systematic approaches to business give fashion a chance to reach a new level.
Obviously, the rapid changes in the industry are directly related to the process of transformation toward sustainable fashion. Designers are trying to reduce production and use of resources. As paradoxical as it may sound, fashion is slowing down rapidly.
"Some people may feel that we are going back to the past, that this is how fashion worked 10 years ago. I disagree. The integration of new digital formats and innovative technologies has already taken place in all aspects of the fashion industry, from textile production to retail. The fashion industry has completed another spiral in its development and is again ready to take pride in its major virtues - exclusivity, artistic value, social responsibility, technological innovations. I believe that, together with these noble qualities, the confidence in the value of fashion as such will be revived. And, subsequently, the confidence in the prospects of the industry will be restored both globally and in Ukraine, with its huge potential." - Iryna Danylevska, co-founder and chair of the organizing committee of Ukrainian Fashion Week.
