Marysia Gorobets: "I consciously propagate Ukrainian designers"
Ukrainian Fashion restlessly develops, whereas the number of its influential representatives constantly grows. One of the bright representatives of Ukrainian Fashion Industry is Marysia Gorobets – General Producer and at the same time an anchor-person of Ukrainian Fashion TV-channel covering fashion news. This year Marysia has become “Fashion-anchor of the Year” according to the choice of “Nasha Karta” (network or restaurants). In a friendly conversation with Ukrainian Fashion Week Organizing Committee Marysia Gorobets told us about Ukrainian Fashion TV-channel and her personal experience, as well as her everyday work and contribution into Ukrainian Fashion development.
1. How did you get the idea to create TV-channel Ukrainian Fashion and what served as a driving force to realize this fashion project?
It just happened so that this idea caught me itself last September. At the same time I really firmly believed in its success and since then have been restlessly developing it with a small but ambitious team of professionals. We started chaotically during the 29th Ukrainian Fashion Week, whereas during the 30th Anniversary Ukrainian Fashion Week we’ve managed to become your official media partner already. We are proud and inspired by the fact that during this fashion week we have shot more than 50 collections and more than 100 interviews. We also feel our responsibility and, what is basic for us, we feel sincere gratitude of our designers. Feedback is extremely vital as it motivates to improve and to develop. For instance, following the critical advice of Zalevskyi concerning the music we use we started to introduce original designer tracks. We are not afraid of mistakes, as finally they make us better.
2. How do you manage to be an anchor-person and the General Produce of the channel at a time?
To tell the truth, it is not easy at all! Meetings in the morning, shootings in the evening… Sometimes I wonder myself where I find forces for all this, especially bearing in mind that I’m a producer-“fresh-comer”. I’ve never studied to become neither TV-presenter nor producer. Instead I was dreaming to become a political scientist. Yet, practice and realias never meet in politics. Actually, neither do they in television. Nevertheless, owing to the Mohyla School of Journalism teaching a bit of everything I feel myself today like a fish in water, or rather like a sparrow in the air, as my last name can be translated as “Sparrow” into English.
3. Can you unveil creative plans of your channel? Are you planning any international cooperation?
Our plans are really ambitious! Yet, plans are plans, and we will realize them step by step. Today we have satellite broadcasting as well as broadcasting in the main cable TV networks, the leading cable network Volia-cable including. Every day our fashion-family grows. Recently I’ve had a call from my friend from Budapest – even their fashionistas follow the events of fashion life in Ukraine with the help of our channel. And, by the way, we manage to provide 100% our original content. And our TV-colleagues understand well how uneasy it is. Soon we are going to broadcast from the main catwalks worldwide and will be initiating stylish events in Ukraine and far beyond its borders. You can find more information about life of our channel on our official pages in social networks and on the fashion portal, which we are almost ready to present to our fashionistas.
4. Were you surprised to become “Fashion-anchor of the Year”?
Several months before the ceremony I was offered to participate in the election of “Fashion-anchor of the Year” within the event initiated by “Nasha Karta”. I gladly accepted this offer, as similar offers are not so often. Surely, I was pleasantly surprised. Yet, every surprise is actually logical: I’ve been taking active part in Ukrainian fashion industry since its origin: I have been covering all the catwalk shows of the first Fashion Seasons. Then I took part in Film Festivals, TV-bridges within Eurovision, conférences of Ellie Saab, Stephan Rolland, Escada Fashion House… I keep abreast on fashion-events of the country and I’m proud of this. I would like to use one more opportunity to state my gratitude to the initiators of the ceremony and to admit that similar awards really add wings!
5. You are an influential personality in Ukrainian Fashion. Can you share with us what brand you prefer to wear in your everyday life?
Surely, my public image differs from the style I prefer for everyday life. But the essence is always unchangeable. I consciously propagate Ukrainian designers as I myself am fond of their creations. I always stand for authentic.
