Guests of International Program about Ukrainian Fashion Week: PART 2
Ross Aston, Katerina Petukhova, Ben Fern, Federico Poletti, Sandra Leko about Ukrainian Fashion Week
Ukrainian Fashion Week continues gathering comments and impressions of the guests of our International Program. The impressions of our friends – buyers, fashion-consultants, journalists, bloggers, stylists from different parts of the world – are constantly completed with new thoughts, impressions, ideas and intentions to cooperate with Ukrainian designers!
Ross Aston, GARAGE magazine (United Kingdom)
I haven’t known much about Ukrainian designers before I was invited by Ukrainian Fashion Week Organizing Committee, as we don’t hear much about them in England. And it’s real shame, as there are so many really nice things here. I like what I see. It is interesting to observe how it is different from other fashion weeks, London Fashion Week for instance. The collections of Ukrainian designers are interesting and different, and really nice. That is my first visit not only to Kyiv, but to Eastern Europe in general, and it produces the most positive impressions.
Kateryna Petukhova, fashion-consultant (Russia)
It is really interesting to observe the evolution of Ukrainian designers, with whom I have managed to work already. I like the high level of everything happening within Ukrainian Fashion Week. It is qualitatively different from other fashion weeks in Eastern Europe, and that’s really pleasant. Ukrainian designers are known not only on European, but on American market as well. It indicates that they really have great potential which they realize, and that they offer right things. Usually young designers meet difficulties in combination of their ideas with commercial concept and business strategies. Ukrainian designers manage to do it, or at least start doing it. What I like is that Ukrainian Fashion Week gives Ukrainian designers a chance to communicate with representatives of international fashion industry. This helps them to move forward. There is a stereotype that young designers from Eastern Europe never manage to present their collections in time and in good quality. Nevertheless, it is completely different here. I can say that the collections presented this season are even better than previous time. I have seen really unsurpassed shows this season when the collections are as good as the show itself. I liked the collections by Elena Reva, Svetlana Bevza, kamenskakononova, Liliya Poustovit and Olga Alonova.
Eastern Europe has the highest level of catwalk shows organization. That’s not only my opinion. International guests who have come again to Ukrainian Fashion Week share it as well. I hope that you will create a certain business format, when the coming professionals will be able to share their experience with Ukrainian fashion industry.
Ben Fern, freelance fashion assistant (United Kingdom)
I’m glad that Ukrainian Fashion Week Organizing Committee invited me. I can’t say anything negative about what I see as I like everything: starting from historical places of interest in Kyiv and finishing with creative designer collections, which are really nice. They are all different and successful. For me it is something really new in fashion industry. Clothes which your designers present are more wearable here, and that is surely your advantage.
Federico Poletti, Vogue Italy
I’ve heard a lot about Ukrainian Fashion, but I’m not very familiar with it. Kyiv is a city of fashion enthusiasm: active boutiques of international brands, national designers, but lack of purposeful creative direction. Ukrainian Fashion Week has wisely combined promising commercially-oriented designers and non-commercial ones. I liked SS 2013 collection by Liliya Poustovit, as it is very trendy, especially in developing Ukrainian theme in fashion. I was pleasantly impressed with geometrical collection by Svetlana Bevza, Olena Migdisova found a great idea to combine guipure elements...
I would like to thank Ukrainian Fashion Week organizing committee for the chance to see the designers’ showrooms, to get in touch with Ukrainian designers, to communicate with them and establish relations.
I hope u will find your own way to gain international level and will show your identity to international fashion community.
Sandra Leko, Ponystep (United Kingdom)
Everything is so nice and beautiful here that every London dweller should come to Kyiv to see it. People are very nice, well-behaved and benevolent. It was very interesting to see your backstage. I had a chance to get acquainted with those designers who were presenting collections within Ukrainian Fashion Week. It was interesting to communicate with them even if they don’t speak English. I would like to distinguish Svetlana Bevza among all. She had really nice shoes in her collection, and I liked her style in general. I think that the days spent here were not only interesting but useful as well. Ukrainian Fashion Week is organized on a very high level, so actually I really haven’t noticed any minuses worth mentioning.
