«Fatal Strategies»: Olga Gromova Final Collection
On October 11, 2011 Olga Gromova, (designer of Gromova Design), Konstantin Doroshenko (Doroshenko-Gryshchenko clinics, project’s coordinator) and Vitaliy Ulytsky (USP Events, project’s producer) will present their new Art Project «Fatal Strategies»!
This project is the cusp of the present philosophy, contemporary art and fashion. It is a kind of a dialogue with a French philosopher Jean Baudrillard who claims that nowadays things and ideas are autonomous, all the relations and ties are of merely symbolic significance turning values into symbols. As a result, it’s impossible to say what is true, what is false, and simulation blinds the reality.
Fashion obsessed by the suicidal desire to die on the peak is a bright illustration of this idea. The fashion, which regularly clones itself twice a year, sets new symbols and places them instead of real values.
Paradox? Fatality. You’re welcome to see the collection you’ll never see again.
«Fatal Strategies» is a multimedia art project which unites contemporary philosophy, publishing business, fashion, performance, architecture and sсenography. The chosen location – VDNKh Exhibition of Economic Achievements – acts as manifestation of industrial mythology and of Baudrillard’s idea concerning the post-industrial metamorphoses of economy, society and cognition.
Scenography is a conceptual object by Georgiy Senchenko, the legend of contemporary Ukrainian art, who, together with Arsen Savadov, was one of its originators in 1980s and a participant of the first biennale Manifesta (Rotterdam, 1996).
Artistic plastic decorations, complicated effects, demanding specially created mechanisms, will help to create images living only for a tiny moment in the chimer unreal space.
A bilingual English-Ukrainian catalogue will be the basic carrier of the project’s documentation. It will cover critics, interviews and reproductions of all the images of the collection. Its presentation will become an independent event itself.
Konstantin Doroshenko is a co-founder of Doroshenko-Gryshchenko clinics (a public organization set to heal the society by means of culture), one of the prominent art-critics of Ukraine, coordinator of a number of remarkable projects (such as “Crucified Budda”, Kyiv, 2001, XXIV International Congress on legal and social philosophy – Miami, 2010 and others)
Each guest will receive the book “Fatal Strategies” by Jean Baudrillard (translated into Ukrainian). Its special collection circulation was published by Gromova Design and Doroshenko-Gryshchenko clinics in “Kalvaria” publishing house (Lviv).
In her interview to “Ukrainska Kultura” (“Ukrainian Culture”) magazine, dedicated to its 90th anniversary and presented by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Ukraine, on the 54th Venetian biennale (2011), Olga Gromova underlines that the translation of the most representative Jean Baudrillard’s work into Ukrainian is an important social and cultural event, which the society must realize. Such an injection of ideas which form the contemporaneity feed the modernity of the national discourse. Olga also admits that the present crisis in art is caused by the trials to change it into a product of narrow politically correct and comfortable sense in order to please fashion.
The aim of the project is to prove that art still can dare the life-asserting destruction, and penetrate the existence, conquering the overwhelming cabinet tendencies. We will prove it by means of fashion, which is believed to be a classical propagator of cloning.
Olga Gromova was inspired to create this collection by architectural bionics, which is based on the borrowing of unsurpassed constructions the nature proposes and on their realisation in design with the help of information technologies.
Contemporary bionics means the newest researches in biology, chemistry, physics, mechanics, mathematics and cybernetics. As far as a person and the wildlife are biologically unified, there exists a possibility to use the processes and the elements of the wildlife in artificial objects. This desire to exploit the borrowed forms of the existence was caused not by the goal to find new visual means of expression, but by the ambition to find a fresh set of tools to create clothes, to widen the boarders of the existing approaches and to make a step towards the future, towards new technologies and new possibilities of design itself. That’s why the designer used mathematical logics, programming, extra-precise projecting of virtual models, search for technologies of laser cut and finishing instead of traditional set of scissors, pencils, needles etc.
Meticulous work of architects, programmers, constructors and technologists resulted in a new extremely organic and technologic collection, which was born to live, to waken the desire, to die and to regenerate – just like everything alive and sexual.
