Art Platform of Ukrainian Designers. Part 4
Ukrainian Fashion Week continues to tell about the Art Platform of Ukrainian designers initiated during the 31st Ukrainian Fashion Week. We have already mentioned installations by Viktor Anisimov, Svetlana Bevza and Liliya Litkovskaya (Part 1), Nataliya Kamenskaya/ Olesya Kononova, Volodymyr Podolyan and Andre Tan (Part 2), Christina Bobkova, Ksenia Kireeva and Serge Smolin (Part 3).
Today we are going to present the creations of three more Ukrainian designers, whose creative maturing is connected with Ukrainian Fashion Week, namely of Oleksandr Kanevskiy, Artem Klimchuk and Elena Przhonskaya.
Installation by Olexandr Kanevskiy demonstrated the loneliness of a person in a big city, who in spite of all the people around in fact still exists by himself. The installation was based on the video depicting a lonely person in the middle of city jungles.
“Designer Olexandr Kanevskiy belongs to the recent Ukrainian fashion history – some three years ago his collection was first presented within Ukrainian Fashion Week, whereas six months later Kanevskiy was called “Discovery of the Year” within Best Fashion Awards-2010. Today he is one of the most interesting young designers not only in Ukraine, but in Eastern and Central Europe as well. Clothes by Kanevskiy are distinguished for exceptionally rough, sharp, but utilitarian cut - waterproof jackets with a hoods hiding the face; shameless outspoken dresses, in which gentle femininity harmonizes with brutal sexuality, laconic down-padded coats resembling the best retro-futuristic items, and indispensable one-piece suits. The designer creates urban uniform, relevant in any asphalt, stone and concrete areal – Berlin, New York, Kyiv, Stockholm, whatever. Levelling the individuality an urban uniform frees the most secret desires. A hero of Kanevskiy brand refuses any compromises. But that’s not explained by his bad character. He simply breaks the reality creating his own context”. Tatiana Kremen, Expert of Best Fashion Awards.
Elena Przhonskaya about her installation: “We have presented an interactive installation, in which each visitor can become a part of it. Entering a mirror corridor he not only stops feeling the measures of space, but discovers new perspectives hiding in the infinity”.

“Acquaintance with PRZHonskaya brand always means experiments with architectonics in clothes. The concept of PRZHonskaya brand is based on laconic forms built on complicated cut, impeccable proportions and the finest realization of ideas. Her stylistics is distinguished for free silhouettes, experimental shoulder line and a play with textures. The first glance at PRZHonskaya collections will fix the volume and an accentuated shoulder line. The admirers of geometry will surely find “their” clothes in the designer’s collections, as according to Olena one of her key secrets is constructive fragmentation. In spite of the lack of curves and ruches clothes by PRZHonskaya have an up-to-date gentle feminine look. A girl of PRZHonskaya brand will never put on anything superfluous, whereas easily will follow the experiments with cut and textures”. Kateryna Orekhova, Expert of Best Fashion Awards.
Artem Klimchuk: “A crown of thorns made of barbed wire fences off and protects a delicate creation from those who don’t want it strongly enough. A relative inaccessibility of a luxurious top hand-embroidered in thousands of crystal beads is only a question of the wish. If one really wants it he will surely try and get it. He only has to trespass the crown of thorns”.
“This young designer, even-tempered from his own point of view and ambitious from the point of view of the rest, started his career 3 seasons ago and has managed to make the unbelievable – to fill in the “gaps” in the wardrobes of Kyiv fashionistas. They had everything or almost everything in their wardrobes – structured minimalism by Litkovskaya, slipshod intellectual scarcity by Poustovit, decorated chic by Karavay…Rejecting the stereotypes and his ambitions about “never seen or worn before” Klimchuk created something weird and unexpected at first glance – a simple old-fashioned academic dress… Klimchuk is a maverick. This explains his unwillingness to follow the fashion, to indulge clients’ predilections. Fashion for him is a dictatorship, doing bidding, totalitarian regime – something completely contravening his existence… Looks by Klimchuk are favored by a new generation of young people with a closed but rebellious essence, which fully corresponds to the designer’s passionarity, 110% implemented in all his collections... “. Victoria Zubenko, Expert of Best Fashion Awards.
