Art Platform of Ukrainian Designers. Part 2
Ukrainian Fashion Week continues our review of installations by Ukrainian designers presented within an Art Platform during the 31st Ukrainian Fashion Week. This time we are going to tell about the installations by Nataliya Kamenskaya and Olesia Kononova (KAMENSKAKONONOVA duo), Volodymyr Podolyan and Andre Tan. (Find the first part of the review here:).
KAMENSKAKONONOVA, Nataliya Kamenskaya and Olesia Kononova about their installation:
"It is a union of creative manifest and reality, which invariably sets its rules and conditions. It is a moment, an explosion of emotions, an impulse, which is mostly governed not by the creator but by a moment of life. We wanted to say that our creativity is inseparable from the surrounding, from the time, and that sometimes the reality contributes to the creation more than the creator himself”.
"Everything that the girls create is incredibly close to me by its spirit and by the manner… They always surprise me with ability to create simple and at the same time meaningful forms. Their play with lengths, volumes and textures always enchants and inspires me as a stylist. There is never anything superfluous or disharmonious in their collections, and each season they create a lyrical, feminine but at the same time strong look…They surely have their own style and identity. As for me, that’s what a truly conceptual fashion means”. Natalia Osadcha, Expert of Best Fashion Awards.
Volodymyr Podolyan about his installation:
“This installation reflects my aspirations and my principles: breaking away from the net of stereotypes and rules set by the society to have no fear to be individual in desires, dreams and actions, to share knowledge and perception of the world, to do everything to make the world and the people around more intelligent and to teach them not to be afraid of individuality in all its proclamations ”.

“Presenting his first collection “Adaptation” within Ukrainian Fashion Week as a part of “New Names” project in 2004, covering an uneasy way of the brand’s development under the guidance of a British curator, returning to Ukrainian Fashion Week catwalk in March 2010, Volodymyr Podolyan purposely and invariably follows his convictions and ambitions: to destroy stereotypes, to attract society to important social issues and to share his knowledge and his own perception of the world by means of images. Creating the models in destructive cuts and offering to wear them in an unusual way, the designer calls to have a new look on usual things. Each piece of Podolyan collection has the designer’s individual hand, that’s why his clothes are not only popular in Ukraine but are also acknowledged as intellectual among European and American buyers”. Dina Silina,Expert of Best Fashion Awards.
Speaking of his installation Andre Tan explained that it was dedicated to his second line of clothes “Smart Couture”, which the designer is actively developing. After a thorough look one will be able to see that the table-cloth is made of garments from Smart Couture collection painted in white.

“Andre Tan stopped being just a designer a long time ago. His omnipresence irritates many people. Partly because it brings him impressive dividends, partly because it gives the grounds to drip sarcastically that it’s impossible to manage everything at a time, whereas to manage everything well is even less real. Answering a question what he is more – a designer, a showman or a businessman – Andre answers without any hesitations: “I am a designer, that’s my true vocation. And I won’t be able to resist it. I’m not aiming at Louis Vuitton’s laurels. What I want is to create comfortable and simple clothes which people can wear in real life. Wearing these clothes people should smile and cry, they should meet each other”. The designer continues: “I would like to develop myself as interior designer as well, to create furniture and accessories. This ambition may be caused by the fact that I am going to build my own house… One more direction which interests me for the moment is a line of clothes for men, which is explained by my clients’ demands and by my manager’s advice”. Well, we’ll live and we’ll see”. Sonya Zabuga, Expert of Best Fashion Awards
