Ukrainian Fashion Week presents the fifth story of Action: Sustainable Fashion – Ochis.
One of the biggest problems of fast fashion is the overproduction of clothes and accessories. The ephemerality of trends leads to a decline in product quality and irresponsible use of the planet's resources.
The brand was founded by Maksym Gavrylenko in Kyiv in 2018. Maksym's goal was to create a truly unique, environmentally friendly product that can completely replace fast single use solutions. This is how the glasses, which are 100% biodegradable and made of the natural oils and processed coffee grounds, collected in Kyiv coffee shops, were created.
Moreover, the production process is also completely environmentally friendly. 15 years of experience with optics and an innovative approach helped the founder to develop a prototype of the world's first coffee glasses, without emition CO2 into the atmosphere. Today, each frame goes through 39 stages of manual processing to become the perfect pair of Ochis.
Ochis philosophy - naturalness and environmental friendliness. "I started studying human psychology, and it prompted me to realize the problem of global consumption and plastic pollution," says Maksym. "I wanted to find a material that no one needed anymore, and if reused, it would gain new value."
The brand team sees positive changes in the world and makes its own contribution to the development of the latest environmental technologies, using secondary raw materials of plant origin, which develops circular design in Ukraine, which is the future of the industry.
Global brands have been trying for many years to solve the problem of unethical production, supply and disposal chains. That is why now in the fashion industry there is a transformation of linear business models into circular ones, which provide for the production of products without the use of primary raw materials in the most environmentally friendly and ethical ways.
Today, the Ochis team is working to develop and improve both production processes and glasses models. The brand professes the idea of sustainable business, conscious consumption and the rejection of fast fashion, emphasizing that one pair of eco-glasses is better than a large number of cheap plastic models.
